Genesis 2

And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made. And He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He had rested from all His work which God created to make.

God gets tired? Really? Humans get tired. Only a limited entity would get tired. Not even through two pages of the Bible and we know LORD God can’t be omnipotent.

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, and every shrub of the field was not yet on the earth, and every plant of the field had not yet sprung up. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was no man to till the ground. But there went up from the earth a mist and watered all the face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Whoa whoa whoa…last chapter the plants were created on the third day, and man AND woman were created together on the sixth day, along with all the land animals. Did no one proofread this?

And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden. And there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food. The tree of life also was in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And a river went out of Eden to water the garden. And from there it was divided and became four heads. The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which surrounds all the land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good. There is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that surrounds the whole land of Cush. And the name of the third river is Tigris; it is that which goes toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. And the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, You may freely eat of every tree in the garden, but you shall not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. For in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

Eden sounds like a pretty decent place, but why in the world would LORD God place the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the center of the garden? It is like putting a giant, red, DO NOT PRESS button on a desk and not expecting someone to press it. Just don’t make the tree in the first place. This really bothers me. God set up man to fail. On purpose. It seems really contrived and 100% Chekhov’s Gun.

And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every fowl of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. And Adam gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field. But there was not found a suitable helper for Adam.

According to the last chapter, birds and fish came before man, as did all the animals. On day six woman was already created. Why this contradiction? I would understand if this was many books away, but it was the last freaking page. Oh, by the way, good luck naming the millions of species of animals.

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept. And He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh underneath. And the LORD God made the rib (which He had taken from the man) into a woman. And He brought her to the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife; and they were not ashamed.

Why the special creation of woman from a rib? Just make her out of dust like Adam, or, did you create her already in the last chapter? I must say, in terms of sentiment, I like how the narrative explains why we leave our parents to be with someone, and they were innocent and unafraid.

As an aside, we humans have discovered the true size and scope of the universe, and it is far more majestic than just lights to mark the seasons. We know we live on an uneven ball of liquid rock, hurtling through space, orbiting a star a million times larger than our earth. And our sun is one of 100 octillion stars in the universe. It is humbling how small we are compared to the universe, and how small of a part of that universe we occupy. We also know of our true origins and how we are one with the rest of the living creatures on this planet, we were no made apart, we are part of the whole. I think naturalistic explanations are far easier to understand and beautiful than just magically being created.

This text was obviously written by bronze age peoples. There are no observations here that indicate a divine authorship. Every claim above has been proven false, many times.
